First African American Family History Fair September 24

The Shelby County Historical Society is co-sponsoring an African American History Fair on September 24th titled "The Road to Freedom: In Memory of the Ancestors, Their Names Need to be Said."


The event is free to the public and will take place at the Birmingham Family History Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. The center is located at 2780 Altadena Rd., Birmingham, AL 35243.


Shelby County Museum & Archives Executive Director Jennifer Maier will be presenting a new slave database that she, along with museum staff and volunteers, has created over the past three years. This database contains over 5,000 references to enslaved people in Shelby County.
